Wednesday March 10th, NC Stage will hold a performance of  True West to raise money for Signal FM 90.5 in Haiti. Tickets are $20 and half of the proceeds of this performance will support the work of this radio station, which has become a crucial resource for Haitians in the aftermath of the earthquake.

Immediately after the earthquake hit, Signal FM 90.5 was the only radio station with working towers and transmitters. The radio station quickly became a lifeline for Haitians, operating around the clock to provide valuable information about finding food and water, body collection, and more.  The radio station also functioned as a giant “missing persons” board – helping people reconnect with family members, and report information about possible survivors in collapsed buildings.

Signal FM 90.5The staff of NC Stage first learned about Signal FM through a story broadcast January 25th on local NPR affiliate WCQS 88.1.  In that story, reporter John Burnett stated that “Signal FM's staff of 23 reporters and announcers — with even more in the provinces — is the largest corps of journalists in Haiti. Many of them have lost their homes, and some have family members who have died. But they're on the air, day and night, telling Haitians what's happening in their calamitous nation.”
