At the dawn of the use of electricity, the 1800s, near New York. A man, Dr. Givings, treats women (and sometimes men) for “hysteria” with an electric vibrating machine. This machine is housed in a room, just off the parlor from the rest of his home, where his wife, a new mother, is dealing with hysteria of her own.
Elizabeth. African-American woman, 25 - 40. Elizabeth is hired by the Givings family as a wet nurse for their new baby. She lost her own baby, Henry, not long before.
