2022-23 Season Auditions

VIDEO AUDITION SUBMISSION DEADLINE:  5pm Wednesday, July 20

SEEKING: Video auditions from actors of all races and ethnicities for the 2022-23 Season.

These are Actors’ Equity Association required season auditions and Equity members are given priority.  North Carolina Stage Company operates on a SPT-4 Contract (pending approval). Non-union actors are welcome to audition.

North Carolina Stage Company is requiring that all employees, including all actors, stage managers, and those who interact with actors and/or stage managers within the course and scope of their employment, be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of such vaccination prior to the first day of rehearsal for all productions. In addition, all employees are required to get a booster shot when eligible.

PREPARATION:  

Actors are asked to prepare two contrasting monologues (length between 1 – 1.5 minutes each) and submit headshot, resume, and private or password protected links of audition videos via the online audition form.  Please state your name and the pieces being performed at the beginning of the submission.

SHARON (50s)  Lived in the Midwest her whole life.  Sheltered, reserved but curious. Recently divorced and beginning to rebuild.  

ROBYN (50s)  A woman from the Bronx with a mysterious past.  Not eager to connect. She is trying to turn over a new leaf by moving to Iowa.


BE HERE NOW

BARI (40s-50s) A depressed and cynical academic who undergoes a radical transformation.

PATTY COOPER (40s – 50s)  Boisterous and good hearted. Has never left her hometown of East Cooperville.

LUANNE COOPER (20s)  Patty’s niece. Sweet with an uncomplicated approach to life.

MIKE COOPER (40s-50s)  Patty’s cousin. A kind, eccentric artist who is patient and a good listener.


THE MORE LOVING ONE

JAMIE (30s-40s) Tax lawyer. Husband of Sid. Poised, comfortable man in uncomfortable circumstances; a man accustomed to certainty who finds himself filled with doubt.

LIV (20s) Grad student and sex worker. Has ambitions that exceed her station, but not her drive or intelligence. Prone to a sort of subtle verbal sparring that can be very alluring.

SID (30s-40s) Jamie’s wife. By nature, she is abjectly competitive. From her POV, life has given her none of the privileges she deserved. Life’s been unfair. Shouldn’t it be for Jamie, too?


VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE

VANYA (50s-60s) Resigned to his life, more or less, often acting as a family peacemaker.  Lives together with his adopted sister Sonia in the family home. 

SONIA (50s-60s) Adopted sister of Vanya. Discontent with her current life and regretful of roads not taken. 

MASHA (50s-60s) Vanya’s biological sister, glamorous and successful actress who goes gallivanting around the world.

SPIKE  (20s) Masha’s new companion and an aspiring actor. Sexy, self absorbed, but otherwise outgoing and friendly. Quite impressed, not without merit, with his own physical appearance. Will appear shirtless.

NINA (20s) Aspiring actress and Masha is her idol. Visiting her aunt and uncle next door to Vanya’s house.  Star struck, earnest, and energetic.

CASSANDRA (any age) Housekeeper and somewhat of a caregiver to Vanya and Sonia.  Like her Greek namesake, she is frequented by psychic visions that no one else believes.
