2018-2019 Season Auditions

WHEN: August 22 & 23, 2018: 11:00am-2:00pm, 3:00pm-7:00pm

Dates for productions listed in character breakdown below.

WHO: Actors of all ethnicities are welcome to audition for the 2018 – 2019 Season. These are Actors Equity Association required season auditions and AEA members are given priority. Non-union actors are welcome as time permits.

HOW: For appointments email [email protected] or call 828-239-0263 between 12:00pm and 5:00pm Monday through Friday. Email preferred.

PREPARATION: Actors will be given sides from the show to prepare for auditions upon confirmation of appointment. Video submissions are welcomed.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS/ DESCRIPTION

FROST/NIXON

Rehearses 9/18/18, previews 10/10/18, opens 10/13/18, closes 11/04/18 

Actor One: MANOLO SANCHEZ (30s – 50s). Nixon’s valet of 12 years. Cuban background. Also plays TECHNICIAN 1. 

Actor Two: SWIFTY LAZAAR (Male, 30s – 50s). Quirky talent agent representing authors and celebrities. Negotiated “Frost/Nixon” interviews on behalf of Richard Nixon. Appears older than his actual age. Also plays MIKE WALLACE, TECHNICIAN 2, Monarch Bay STUDIO MANAGER. 

Actor Three: JOHN BIRT (40s-50s). BBC’s director of news and current affairs. Producer for the Frost team. British accent. Also plays the photographer OLLIE
FROST/NIXON (continued) 

Actor Four: BOB ZELNICK (30s-50s). Executive Editor of the Frost/Nixon Interviews. American Journalist, executive editor of the “Frost/Nixon” interviews. Also plays Oval Office STUDIO MANAGER. 

Actor Five: CAROLINE CUSHING (30s – 40s). Fashion model living in Monte Carlo. French accent. David Frost’s girlfriend. Also plays MAKE-UP LADY. 

Actor Six: RICHARD NIXON (60s – 70s). America’s 37th President. A tireless campaigner, a survivor of political battles. 

Actor Seven: JIM RESTON (30s – 50s). American author and journalist. Researcher for the Frost team. 

Actor Eight: DAVID FROST (30s – 40s). British Journalist, comedian, and host of The David Frost Show. British Accent. 

Actor Nine: JACK BRENNAN (30s – 40s). A retired Colonel from the US Marine Corps Reserve and a political aide. Nixon’s post-resignation chief of staff. 

Actor Ten: EVONNE GOOLAGONG (20s – 30s). Top female tennis player in the 1970s. Athletic. Of Australian and aboriginal heritage. Australian accent. Also plays AIR STEWARDESS, WAITRESS, CAMERA 1 OPERATOR.


LIVE FROM WVL THEATRE: ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE

Rehearses 11/06/18, previews 11/28/18, opens 12/01/18, closes 12/16/18 

Seeking 4 actors for ensemble radio play. Actors play various roles. Familiarity with the movie IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE required 

LEE WRIGHT (30s-40s). Foley artist. In love with Evelyn, and probably took the job just to be near her, although he wouldn’t admit it. Dreams of an on-air acting job. Also plays George Bailey, Harry, and more. 

EVELYN REED (20s – 40s). Daughter of the station owner, and WVL’s secretary and general domestic support crew. Despite some amateur theatrics, has never gotten up the nerve to audition for a spot on one of her father’s programs. Also plays Mary Hatch, Carter, and more. 

MAYS (50s-60s). Long-time character actor. In a secret relationship with Kitty and scared to admit it to anyone. Also plays Clarence, Mr. Gower, Mr. Potter, and more. 

KITTY DAYLE (40s-50s). Character actor. In a secret relationship with Mays and fed up with all the secrecy. Also plays Violet, Ernie, Mrs. Bailey, and more.


TWELVE DATES OF CHRISTMAS

Rehearses 11/20/2018, previews 12/12/2018, opens 12/15/18, closes 12/30/2018 (No performances 12/24 or 12/25) 

MARY (20s – 30s). Energetic, lovingly self-deprecating with a quick-witted sense of humor. Mary is launched back into the dating game after her fiancé cheats on her at Thanksgiving. Alongside the role of Mary, actor portrays multiple characters from Mary’s life and engages with the audience throughout the piece.


JEEVES AT SEA

Rehearses 1/01/19, previews 1/23/19, opens 1/26/19, closes 2/17/19 

BERTIE WILBERFORCE WOOSTER
(30s-40s). An affluent bachelor with a tendency to get himself into tricky situations. Simply has not grown up and has little understanding of the world around him. Self-centered but very likeable and harmless. 

JEEVES
(40s) Bertie’s unflappable valet. Level headed. Always thinking 5 steps ahead. Long suffering but discreet and flawlessly mannered. 

SIR PERCIVAL EVERARD CRUMPWORTH (“CRUMPET”)
(30s – 40s) Bertie’s lovestruck and poverty-stricken pal. Awkward and unremarkable. Masquerades as Alfred Crumpworth, Crumpet’s long-lost twin brother, ten-minutes younger than Crumpet and his exact opposite. Also plays ALFRED CRUMPWORTH who is debonair, dashing, and devilishly charming. 

LADY STELLA VANDERLEY
(30s – 40s) Bertie’s love interest. A mischievous heiress who delights in stirring up trouble and adores toying with her many lovelorn suitors. 

MISS MINERVA PILBEAM
(40s-60s) Stella’s companion, entrusted by Stella’s strict father with the daunting task of looking out for his high-spirited daughter. Morally upright but with a romantic soul. 

COUNT OTTO VON DIETRICHSTEIN
(40s – 60s) Equerry to His Serene Highness the Prince of Saxburg-Liegnitz. Had a long-ago flirtation with Minerva in Vienna. Avid duelist and fond of polishing his sword.


STONES IN HIS POCKETS

Rehearses 4/02/19, previews 4/24/19, opens 4/27/19, closes 5/19/19 

Seeking 2 actors for ensemble piece. Actors portray multiple characters as a Hollywood movie is being filmed in a rural Ireland. Variety of American, Irish, Scottish, and British accents required. 

CHARLIE CONLON
(40s-50s) A local Irish extra on a Hollywood film set. Has great aspirations to get his own script made into a film. Eager, hapless, colorful, and kind. Working-class.

JAKE QUINN
(30s – 40s). A local Irish extra on a Hollywood film set. Confident and charismatic. Recently returned from America and is enthralled by the movie’s leading lady. Deeply rooted in the community and passionate about the lives of his compatriots. Working-class.
